email from Lani Frank, 7/23/09:
We all need to make a call to our STATE SENATORS TODAY / TOMORROW-tell them you want them to support SB400 Family & Business Healthcare Security Act-It will save every municipality on average 5% of their budget, and reduce property taxes and reduce County taxes if we lift the burden of providing healthcare to our Municipality/County employees. This is why Pittsburgh passed the resolution-See Below. Please contact Senator Dinniman and let him know this is what you want him to support!! It is critical that we call him NOW to let him know-the bills are being introduced and we need to pressure him to get on board. Thanks 610-692-2112

Pittsburgh City Council today unanimously passed a strong resolution endorsing single payer health care in Pennsylvania. . They called upon the Pittsburgh delegation to the PA. General Assembly to “fund an unbiased Economic Impact Statement, hold public hearings and to exercise every power of their offices to swiftly enact the passage of SB400/HB1660,” The Family & Business Health Security Act.
They ordered that a copy of the resolution be transmitted to the
Mayor, all members of the General Assembly and the Governor.
The resolution states that the City “would realize significant savings in premiums paid on behalf of its employees and retirees, for example, the City would save $20,966,457 in the current year.”
Passage of this legislation “would provide a model for he U.S. and
would attract business to Pennsylvania.”
Members of HEALTH CARE FOR ALL PA and PUSH will be meeting with officials of Allegheny County Council, local school districts, and municipalities as part of a statewide campaign. Specific cost figures, based on projected budgets, provide a powerful argument for economically strapped communities needing to find ways to save money.
