Trend shows writer off the mark

Jim Callahan’s column, “Unfamiliar turf for Democrats” (DLN, March 30) was an incredibly slanted piece of writing which ignored important facts as well as recent political trends. The first paragraph stated that, “Chester County is Republican country. No disputes allowed.”
Discussing intense local interest in the Democratic primary, Callahan went far out of his way to assure readers Chester County is still safely Republican. He even closed by saying that “on the bright side, order will be returned to the Chester County political universe after April 22,” and then repeated his opening statement.
Sure, it’s true Republican registrations hover around 150,000, compared to somewhere above 100,000 for Democrats. At the same time, Republicans have been rapidly losing ground and are no longer an absolute majority in Chester County. Taking all registrations into account, Republicans can now claim fewer than 50 percent of all registered voters. Read the rest of this entry »
